Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.” John 8:58
Insight:
I find this exchange quite interesting. Jesus blatantly tells the Jews that they do not know who their real father is. Isn’t it a matter of course for siblings to recognize each other? In the physical, resemblance can come from different areas, be it the way one walks, or talks, or even smiles and so on. And so, it must also be in the spiritual. But the Jews share nothing really of the character of Jesus. They specialize in unrighteous judgement and are blinded by unbelief and self-righteousness. The matter at hand here is that the Jews do not believe that Jesus is sent by God, that He is the promised Messiah. They even hold Abraham higher than Jesus.
So our test today is one of authenticity. Are you an authentic Christian? Do you consider Jesus as not only your savior but also your Lord? Do you hold Him high enough in your heart to surrender to Him. Finally, do you obey His word? Because whoever is of God hears and obey His word and shall live.
Je trouve cet échange très intéressant. Jésus dit ouvertement aux Juifs qu’ils ne savent pas qui est leur vrai père. N’est-il pas évident que les frères et sœurs se reconnaissent ? Dans le physique, la ressemblance peut provenir de différents domaines, que ce soit la façon dont on marche, ou parle, ou même sourit et ainsi de suite. Et donc, ça doit aussi être dans le spirituel. Mais les Juifs ne partagent rien vraiment du caractère de Jésus. Ils se spécialisent dans le jugement injuste et sont aveuglés par l’incrédulité et l’autosatisfaction. Le problème ici est que les Juifs ne croient pas que Jésus est envoyé de Dieu, qu’Il est le Messie promis. Ils tiennent même Abraham plus haut que Jésus.
Notre test d’aujourd’hui est donc un test d’authenticité. Êtes-vous un chrétien authentique? Considérez-vous Jésus non seulement comme votre sauveur mais aussi comme votre Seigneur ? Le tenez-vous assez haut dans votre cœur pour vous abandonner à Lui. Enfin, obéissez-vous à sa parole? Car quiconque est de Dieu entend et obéit à sa parole et il vivra.

- Lord, reveal yourself more and more to me.
- Lord, teach me to obey your word.
- Lord, remove the cloud of unbelief from over your church.
- Seigneur, révèle-toi de plus en plus à moi.
- Seigneur, apprends-moi à obéir à ta parole.
- Seigneur, enlève le nuage de l’incrédulité au-dessus de ton église.
